Just tried a new bakeshop/patisserie in town. Believe it or not, when I was driving north on 14th Street, I noticed a van that had a "Serbout's Patisserie" plastered on it. It stuck in my mind, since there aren't too many places in Calgary that try to pass themselves off as a patisserie rather then a bakery (only Brulee and Manuel Latruwe's come to mind).
So, with Google as a weapon, I found the location, smack in the middle of downtown, blessedly close to where I work (see actual address of store in link below). Its taken over the location of the old Hungarian bakery on 6th Ave & 8th St SW.
I tried the Chocolate Molten Cake and Chocolate Ginger Cake. The Molten Cake was fantastic after warming in the microwave for 20 seconds - almost like a souffle. The Chocolate Ginger Cake was great - very light and tasty. Without a doubt, I was very pleasantly surprised. I'm looking forward to sampling some other cakes of his.
I also bought a multi-grain bread with walnuts - it was excellent. The crust was superb.
