Spent a lovely, foggy, cozy weekend in Pacific Grove and had dinner Saturday night at Passionfish. I am sorry to say that I was underwhelmed by the food. The dining rooms are spare and lovely, the service was perfect. I started with fried artichokes with Romesco sauce which were battered and really greasy. The sauce was fresh-tasting and was a needed counterpoint to the grease. I tasted a Greek salad which was fine, nothing too special, good feta, fried olives that again were greasy. Apparently the oil wasn't up to temp that night. I had sturgeon over "Meditteranean salad" which was very good. The salad had garbanzo beans, bits of (kind of stale) pita bread, raisins, pecans, flavored with cumin and fennel seed. My fish was cooked just right but of the five of us who ordered fish, two were seriously undercooked and sent back. That was pretty disappointing.
PS. Unfortunately I didn't get to do my trip up to Santa Cruz to visit all the marvelous spots recommended on this board a few weeks ago - had to take my laptop and work - but thanks and I will save them for next time.
