party foods in advance

Hi hounds,

I am having a housewarming next Sat, but will not be around most of the day of the event to bake, prepare appetizers, ect.

Does anyone have some good recipes (links would be helpful) that can be mostly prepared in advance (ie mixing the batter night before or doing the chopping the morning of) that can then be finished off in about an hour?

I am looking for some kind of bite sized dessert (no nuts please! maybe a chocolate or fruit thing) and some savory app. I was thinking for the savory of endive with goat cheese, almonds and oranges(something I got off of the food network) (or the classic beets goat cheese walnut combo). but am open to suggestions...also, no one is a vegetarian, so I'm flexible there!
thanks!
