Last night my girlfriend and I visited one of our local brewpubs for a few beers after work and something to eat. On the menu was a beer and cheese item that paired three beers with three cheeses. An amber ale was paired with aged VT cheddar, a hoppy IPA with a french goat cheese with herbs, and a English stilton with their barley wine. Personally I thought the amber went better with the goat cheese, the barley wine with the cheddar, and the stilton with the IPA. But it was good to see this kind of item on the menu since I think beer goes better with cheese than wine does and hopefully more people will catch on to this and some better restaurants will eventually start to serve better beer.
One of my favorite meals is a plowman's lunch with some brie, crusty bread, and radishes sprinkled with celery salt paired with a Saison or Belgian Triple.
Anybody else have favorite beer /cheese pairings?
