I am devastated at the closing of Paganelli's, formerly Romagna Mia. I know Eric, the quirky co-owner, was trying to sell, but had no idea of the rent not being paid. Service from Michael and Roberto was top-rate, food good to outstanding, and the atmosphere pleasant and unstuffy - I must have enjoyed dinner there 30-40 times over the last 4-5 years. What I will especially miss is their lasagne. OK, laugh. The dish may not be the pinnacle of Italian "cuisine" but it is the apex in terms of home-style nonna-type cooking. And of course, misery of miseries, no two lasagnes are alike. Theirs was fairly dense, great meat to pasta ratio, toothsomely flavoured with a depth of ragout and a touch of nutmeg, lots of cheese; and it re-heated well.
Anyway, yeah there is good lasagne if you want to go way up Dufferin to Camarro's; and an entirely different type at 7 Numbers, very tomatoe-y, good of its kind. But can ANYONE who tasted Paganelli's or can relate to my description suggest a place in TO where I could try to find a near-duplicate?
Will be in your debt forever. Thanks!
