I just had to share the most wonderful evening...last night I went to dinner with a friend at Lotus of Siam and it was totally over the top. Now, I've been there enough times to be known as a regular, but last night they were truly outstanding. My friend was totally amazed at the staff...always there with a smile when you needed them but not at all intrusive.
We had the crispy rice (of course) and the Northern Thai chicken soup. Then Bang suggested the crispy duck (with crispy basil leaves on top...omigod!) and the garlic shrimp (swoon). Each dish was absolutely a perfect blend of spices -- exploding with flavor but never too much. (BTW, I think they might have toned the fire count down...or maybe I'm just getting used to it and need to move up from my standard 5!) We also shared a bottle of sublime Reisling ($35) (can't remember which one...Bang keeps track for me!)
But again, the staff truly made it a magical evening. My friend is a musician and requested Thai music, so Bill the owner crawled under the front counter to physically find a Thai CD in the changer for us. He also treated us to a little taste of the ice wine for dessert.
All in all, we both agreed it was one of the most memorable meals of our lives.
PS Bang is going to Germany in July to study up on wines. Needless to say, he is very excited about his trip!
