Over the past number of years, we have frequented NDK on average once if not twice a month. We have gotten to know the staff and owners and have always enjoyed the food there; until last week, that is...
I am hoping that this is simply a blip on the radar, perhaps a change at the helm, or some new staff, but the last 2 times we have been, things have begun to slip...and in certain ways, slide - rapidly, downhill.
A few examples:
The bad -
- Under cooked green onion pancake - far too greasy (evident that the oil was not hot enough) and the middle still raw.
- Pan fried dumplings - barely fried, tons of oil on the plate.
The ugly -
- Fried green beans - a staple at our table, came out with pieces of crunchy over-fried, shouldn't even be there - tofu bits (the beginning of the 'dirty oil' fiasco).
- Sweet & Sour pork - a really nice execution, typically - this time came out with a few little bits of over-fried *FISH* - disgusting.
At that point I got upset and said something - sent them both back and did not accept a replacement.
Sadly, we will not be back, at least for a while....CH'ers - (ironic that Charles starts with CH!?) - where else can we get our high quality Dumpling fix in the Times Square vicinity!?
