North Shore Tahoe - a pleasant surprise: Cafe Echo

Our recently completed trip to Tahoe included the discovery of the Cafe Echo, a very pleasant breakfast, lunch, and early-dinner spot in downtown Tahoe City. We ended up eating there repeatedly! It's got a somewhat eclectic style and comfortable prices.

Breakfasts included very good French toast with applewood-smoked bacon and green chili, tortilla, cheese scramble (topped with fresh salsa). Each was about $10. They've got the critical equipment, too: an espresso machine.

At dinner , I tried - and enjoyed - their fish tacos, while my son proclaimed their burger to be the best ever. It was very good, served medium and covered with a good cheddar. The fish was spiced and grilled, I think, and served with cabbage, cilantro, fresh salsa, and just a little creamy, spicy sauce. I was ready to eat a second order, but refrained. The tacos were $12, the burger a little less.

They're open from 8 till 8, IIRC. Joe Bob says "Check it out."
