A friend is bringing someone from out of town to the North End tonight, and she asked me where to go. Normally I've got lots of ideas, suggestions, etc. based on the type of food, atmosphere, experience one is looking for - - but in this case she stumped me, by saying "Imagine you've got one night in your life to go to dinner in Boston's North End..where do you go?"
That all being said, she's thinking her companion won't really like something too far away from traditional Italian - - actually I guess by traditional Italian I mean Southern..more red sauce, garlic, etc. So recs like Terramia or Via Valverde may be just a bit too much for her. I'm thinking that as long as it's got a pasta dish or two; maybe a chicken dish or two, she should be ok.
Here were some of my initial thoughts:
- Il Panino (haven't been there in ages but always thought food was consistently delicious, if not necessarily the most inventive)
- Sage (I know this has a huge Northern bent, but is the menu varied enough for a non-experimental eater?)
- Antico Forno
What would you suggest to my friend? Thanks in advance...
