Neptune - North End Sundries

Count me as solidly within the camp of a fan of Neptune Oyster, and our latest meal didn't disappoint. We started off our lunch today with two each of the Bees River and Summerside PEI oysters. Excellent as always. For starters, I had the "lump crab scampi with egg noodle puddn'" - a rich square of pasta and custard topped by a generous portion of sweet lump crab, all covered with a toasted garlic and oil scampi sauce. My husband had the "Windy Bay Ceviche" - another great appetizer. A pile of fresh shaved zucchini, yellow watermelon, and Vidalia onions tossed with some fat oysters and ribbons of smoked salmon, garnished with a chewy piece of "grilled caviar toast" and some "prosecco Chantilly" cream. We do this every time - now we're full, but we had already ordered more food. E could only finish half his Neptuneburger with its fried oysters and french fries - perfectly medium-rare as always. I had the Striped Bass "Taco" - a generous piece of thick and juicy skin-on bass served as a deconstructed taco with a pile of warm shredded vinegared iceberg lettuce and especially tasty rice and beans on a fried tortilla. Friendly and efficient service as always.

P.S. Weekly specials are:
Monday - Lobster Spaghettini
Tuesday - Surf n' turf
Wednesday - Escargot
Thursday - Sardines. Today's was sardines in a bowl with rice and basil, mozzarella, and Parmesan.
Friday - Poached Cod
Saturday - Pan-seared bluefish
Sunday - As Tatamagouche pointed out, the fantastic sea urchin ditalini.

Now the sun was out so we hit a few of the stores in the North End - the butcher shop across the street from Neptune for their excellent homemade sausages ($3.00 a pound), Polcari's for dried fruit and coffee, and the Salumeria for Piquillo peppers and Bottarga. On the dessert front, we stopped at The Gelateria to share a gelato - with the three flavors being Tiramisu, Panna Cotta, and Melon. The Melon was my favorite - I'll get that all by itself next time. We also hit LuLu's to pick up some treats for the weekend after reading Limster's description of the turtle cheesecake. Everything looked great - we ended up leaving with a mini lemon meringue cheesecake, lime and coconut cheesecake, a whoopie pie, a Boston Cream cupcake, and a chocolate chip bar with raspberries.

And since we're talking sugar comas - we also noticed a new Emack and Bolio's opening next to the Aquarium.
