Monsoon review

Went there for dinner with the parents tonight. Nice atmosphere, more homey and colourful than Saigon Grill. It was way quieter, too, which gave us a chance to catch up.

We each ordered a soup and some appetizers. I started with the bamboo soup - steamed bamboo, gingko nuts, shiitake mushrooms and some kind of spongy white veg. It was lovely, a delicate but flavourful veg broth loaded with veg. Too bad it was so small! My parents had hot and sour soup and chicken curry soup; the latter was quite spicy, which pleased my mom no end.

I followed with the jade rolls - cabbage rolls stuffed with tofu and mushrooms. They were very tasty, though a little wet and on the small side. My parents shared some fried calamari and veg shumai, both of which they enjoyed.

On the down side, the service was really abrupt, esp. after the waiter realized we weren't ordering drinks or dessert.

But the menu has pictures of each dish!
