My brothers and I were working on our parent's house over the holidays in Warson Woods (west county) and went out to lunch a couple of times and stayed close to home. The first place we tried was the Train Wreck on Manchester down from Carl's (our first choice, but it was too crowded). We found the food underwhelming. They seemed proud of their burgers but we found them mediocre at best. The ambience was pleasant, sort of a yuppified St. Louis tavern. The toasted ravioli seemed like it came out of the freezer straight to the fryer. Not a bust but not great. The second place we tried was considerably better or we just got lucky. It's name was Ami's and was on Manchester near Berry Rd.. I had eaten at this little place when it was Talayna's and I think it was connected to the Talayna's down on Skinker. Anyway the food seemed the same, which was good. The toasted ravioli was killer and handmade and fresh. The St. Louis style pizza was what Imo's tries to achieve but fails. The salads were good and get this, they brought out hot yeast rolls with butter. The service was friendly and personal. The prices were cheap. I suspect if it's busy, be prepared to wait, as they do a takeout and delivery business also.
