With the weather getting colder and some good football on yesterday I had a huge craving for some sort of noodle soup. My first attempt at ordering some delivery was from Minca - minimum delivery $10.
After placing my order which came out to $11 the girl who answered the phone started to complain that I was "too far away." Minca is located on 5th street between avenues a & b, I'm located on -1 street between avenues a & b a simple 6 blocks away. I politley asked her if she had a problem delivering to 11th street between a & b, she said no; so I told her there is absolutley no difference between the 2 distances. Her reply was - you need to order more food, you're too far away even though I met the minimum delivery charge. Obviously an establishment has the right to refuse delivery based on distance but at least have rules in place that make sense and are not arbitrary!
Giving up on Minca I ordered from Nha Hang, it took a short FULL HOUR for my #23 (Pho Dac Biet Xa Lua or big bowl beef deluxe soup) and spring rolls to arrive. The soup came with the beef and broth in one container, the noodles in another and the basil leaves, sprouts and other fixins in a seperate bag. I mixed them all together in a large bowl for my meal. At first taste it was ok; but as i got deeper into the broth I kind of got grossed out over the amount of fat and chicken skin that was in the broth. If it had taken 20 minutes to arrive at my door I might have given them another change, but a full hour won't have me ordering from them again.
This now begs the question, where can one get decent delivery noodle soup on the Lower East Side?!
