Michel Cluizel Review

The new Michel Cluizel boutique in the ABC Carpet store is a fun place to go. There is a large circular chocolate counter where you can pick up chocolates to go. For sit-in customers, there are a few tables and a few seats at the bar. I opted for a seat at the bar. I had a white chocolate champagne cocktail ($10), 3 bonbon sampler ($6), and hit of hot chocolate to go ($2). The cocktail was excellent--the white chocolate floated to the top of the cocktail and formed a yummy foam w/the bubbles from the champagne. The hot chocolate was also one of the best I've had. It was very chocolately, but cut with a cream that made it lighter and creamier than other renditions (City Bakery, Jacques Torres). The bonbons were the low point of the experience. I had a champignon (filled with caramel), a hazelnut ganache piece, and a brittle piece (the server's suggestions). All were dry/overly chewy--they had been sitting in the display case for too long. I've had much better in other parts of the city. Despite the mediocre chocolate I had, I'd definitely go back to try another cocktail, to try a pastry (also offered on the bar/sit down menus), or just to sip a hot chocolate and relax in a chocolate-filled environment.
