Miami with Toddler - Food Report

Thanks to all who provided feedback to our Miami food itinerary. My husband, 14 month old and I had a great long weekend away, particularly since we missed the blizzard back home. Here's a quick run down of our eats:

-Lunch @ Yardbird: Beautiful space, friendly service and tasty though not overly memorable food. Husband had the Yardbird chicken sandwich and I tried their chicken and biscuits. But the best thing we ate was a delicious chicken and sweet potato dumplings starter.

-Dinner @ Garcia's: The casual atmosphere and outdoor seating was great for our daughter but we didn't find anything so special about the fish (dolphin sandwich and grouper fillet).

-Bfast @ Acme Bakery: Reminded us of the trendy bakery/coffee shops of NY. Had a very nicely done egg and cheese sandwich on a biscuit. Chocolate croissant was particularly crispy and bacon cheddar scone was nice but a bit too big and dry. Was also nice to try Panther's Coffee there.

-Dinner @ Oak Tavern: Style over substance. None of the small plates we ordered particularly stood out. Service was cold and inattentive. We'd been to Michael's before in the Design District and enjoyed but that whole area seems too-cool-for-school in an LA/Meatpacking District way.

-Dinner @ Pubbelly: Really loved this spot. Our daughter had a certifiable meltdown mid-meal and yet it still managed to be our best meal of the trip. Food was delicious across the board, and service and ambiance were the opposite of Oak Tavern - style AND substance. Particular highlights were the short rib dumplings (I could eat 100 of those), the soft polenta with poached egg and short rib, fried chicken and the Japanese amberjack. Would love to try their other spots next time we're down in MIA. Walking around the area, it was tough to pick which one to try.

-Lunch @ Joe's Take Away: Stone crab and mustard were as delicious as ever but the take away has about as much ambiance as a mall food court and the sides we had along with our crab tasted like food court quality. Next time we'd take the food to go and sit outside but we were in a rush to the airport.

Great trip overall and looking forward to our next visit down!
