Menu/Gift ideas for 21st birthday celebration

My son's girlfriend (and son) are coming to dinner tomorrow...and they don't know it, but I am going to make it a celebration of her 21st birthday, which is in a couple of days. Son has already requested a meat and potatoes type meal; not my favorite but I will oblidge. The weather has been good enough that a nicely grilled steak or london broil will work, along with homemade mashed potatoes and maybe a salad. But I would like to have some special/celebratory touch...any ideas? (maybe for a special cake/desert?). BTW, she is a foreign student from Japan, and seems not to particularly like American cooking, although she does like a good steak. Besides, we'll be having the classic all-American meal in less than two weeks, right? I'm also looking for suggestions on good food-related gifts for her. My son and his roommates all claim she is an excellent cook, and I know she goes to San Francisco periodically to scour Japantown for goodies she's homesick for. Well, I don't have time to head to SF tomorrow, but would love some creative suggestions for something a broke college student wouldn't buy for herself. She does like wine so I may just buy a good bottle....any other ideas?
