So I will be heading to Australia for the first time in June for a week. I picked Melbourne because of my love of Art and food. Also I would rather immerse myself in one city rather than jump around two days here two days there. Though I may hit Sydney based on pricing.
After reading posts, menus and doing research this is my list so far.
Swanson Street Cookie
Coming from where I do in So Cal I'm not hugely interested in ethnic restaurants as between LA and SF I can get a lot of that (I'm aware Swanson Street Cookie is Thai which is fine and we do not get great spanish tapas so Movida will be a treat)
What I really want help with is fresh Australian Seafood. it does not have to fancy or expensive, I'm just looking for types of fish / shell fish we do not get really fresh here (We get supper fresh yellow tail, tuna,swordfish, and halibut). on my bucket list is marron but I realize I'm probably off season for them.
I looked at "South Melbourne Seafood Peddler" which looks to be in a kind of farmers market setting. Which Farmers Markets are another thing I would love to explore.
Also anything truely AU or Melbourne _ like if you came to San Diego and asked me two items to try while down here that are representative of the local culture I would say a great fish taco and a great carne asada burrito.
