Meijo Japanese Restaurant, Imperial Beach

We took a patio table at about 6:00 pm on a pleasant, warm May afternoon.

We could hear a voice on a loudspeaker announcing names of graduates from Mar Vista High School.

After our sashimi, soft shell crab appetizer,, ikura sushi, uni sushi, scallop sushi meal arrived, two ladies dressed in full length black gowns took the table next to us. Hubby asked them what they were graduating from; they laughed and said that they were on the slow plan - thirty years in the making.

The host knew them as regulars and said, "you will be three, with separate checks, yes?" They confirmed and the third member of their party showed up about thirty minutes later, apologizing, "I got caught up in traffic. with former students." One of the other ladies remarked, "Oh, yes, the huggers."

The ladies ordered vegetable tempura and it smelled amazingly good.

The food at Meijo is very fresh, creatively presented with an attention to quality of ingredients, and the welcoming and attentive service is a big plus.
