Maya civilization in Brooklyn.
The Mayan and Guatemalan community, from my demographic / ethnographic / consumerism venturing, seems to extend from below 86 on the 18th ave, to New Utrecht and 70th, and up to McDonald and 18th. They seem to reside on the perimeters of Boro Park's Hesidic neighborhoods, to some extent.
I was clued into were they party on the weekends, with a chat I had with an Ecuadorian, who's parents own a Mexican restaurant, that functions with a DJ on the weekend, for Mayans, or Guatemalans.
I was suspicious of the so called Mexican venues around McDonald and 18th Ave, due to the colors of the Guatemala Flag displayed on the awnings. Also the number of El Salvador and Guatemalan products in the grocers, in that area.
The photos, are certainly Guatemalan food, as they are curried like dishes. The BEEF which is the red one, was amazing, and all dishes come with rice and beans, if one wishes. They are 7 dollars.
About 943 McDonald Ave
This deli-grocer / restaurant has tables in the back, and is located on McDonald a door away from Pizza shop, and doors from the corner of McDonald and 18th ave, where there is a Wine and Liquor Store.
The curries of Guatemala are amazingly delicious.
There is another such Deli / Restaurant down 18th Ave, about 77 or so.
