I walked into Maria's Pastry Shop on Saturday, not really knowing what I wanted for my sweet tooth.... chocolate seemed to be on the agenda.
I asked Maria what kind of chocolate delicacy she would recommend for the day, and from the back of the store (under a heavy plastic sheet cover)she came up with a handful of chocolate spice cookies that were absolutely wonderful. The outside was an icing-like, crumbly covering. The inside was moist and almost like a heavy-cake. I prefer these sort of soft cookies and it wasn't overly sweet; thus, it was perfect. I tried to savor each bite, but three cookies instantly dissapeared one after another.
Are there more cookies like this out there in Italian pastry shops? And does anyone know what these spices are in the chocolate cookie?
