Manor Oktoberfest is literally only a few blocks away from my parents house so I was happy to finally check it out yesterday with my hubby. (This was the 1st time we've gone out in over a month due to his knee surgery- WOO HOO!!!) I would have given this restaurant 5 stars if it weren't for the poor decor. We were sat next to a dessert case which reminded me of a bad diner, with cheesy faux beer hall surroundings. However, the food and service were top-notch.
I am not a beer drinker and made it known to my waiter. Yet, he was able to pick out one of the few beers i have ever liked in my life based on my pitiful description" I love roasty toasty, not so big on hops or bitterness". That was impressive:}
My hubby got a sausage to start and absolutey loved it. I ordered a shrimp cocktail and was happily surprised that they made a fresh cocktail sauce with tomato and fresh grated horseradish. It makes me surprised at how many restaurants just use a bottled cocktail sauce when this was so much more delicious, and it probably takes almost no time to prepare.
For an entree, my hubby got the swedish meatballs and I had the saurbrauten. I wasn't too crazy about his meatballs (they reminded me of airline food- bland, bland, bland) but my saurbrauten was tender, tender, tender and very delicious. The spaetzle was good, though I would have preferred a less uniform shape. (It did make me suspect that they use a pre-made spaetzle). The cabbage was delicious.
