Since Naruda mentioned this market in Bailey's Xroads (next to Chili's) which serves prepared foods at a couple of tables in the back, I thought I'd pop in for a quick survey of Philippino cuisine.
I received a large mound of rice and asked for a "degustation" of three dishes:
Lechon, cubes of pork with lots of fat left on, deep fried. This was the LEAST fatty of the dishes I chose. It was actually ok.
Adobe, chicken in a coconut milk sauce. We are now talking about serious fat consumption. A bit on the disgusting side.
Menudo, pork in a tomato based sauce. Yowee, the gravy with this could sink an entire fleet. Thank God I only got a little bit of each of these dishes.
A friend recently came back from Thailand. She spent time on a volunteer project in the south, but she said she was surprised how fatty the food was. Before Manila Oriental, I didn't know what she was talking about exactly, but now I have a pretty good idea....
