Went there last week and left unsatisfied and disappointed. Had the marinated cucumbers, which were salty and one-dimensional in flavor (soy sauce). Julienned potatoes were slightly better but still salty and the chili heat was not melded with the soy sauce or cilantro. Cumin lamb was a little more flavorful (cumin) but lacking depth and complexity. Lamb dumplings were bland, even with chili sauce, vinegar and soy sauce. Sauteed tong ho w/ garlic was the best of the lot. Tsung yu bing was hot and crispy.
We were hoping for more depth and complexity of flavors. More cumin, garlic, chili, vinegar and other Northwestern style flavors. Were we expecting too much, in the wrong province of China or just ordered the wrong dishes?
Would love anyone's thoughts, as we made a special trip, via cab, from the other side of the peninsula just to come here.
