Maine report (Castine, Acadia-area, Bath & more)

Castine

Pentagoet Inn - good food. Decent prices. Very eclectic furnishings. Had the pork shoulder with beans and spinach. Didn't blow me away but good (and VERY big). The blueberry pie/crisp was very good.

Castine Inn - The food was good, not great. The presentation and some of the food was a bit too much - soup served in a martini glass; carmelized Corn Flakes and chocolate/pickled daikon in the petit fours. The lobster dish didn't have much flavor or much lobster. The pork loin w/potatoes and spinach was good as were the crab cakes.

Blue Moose at Jonathan's (Blue Hill) - Excellent breakfast. Big, fluffy blueberry pancakes and the best corned beef hash I've had.

Acadia Area

Down East Lobster Pound (driving through Trenton, about 1/2 mile before the bridge onto MDI, on the left) - tons of lobster...this is why I came to Maine. A pile of mussels and clams with a huge lobster. Messy and fantastic!

Rockland

Kates - Lobster roll was ok, not great - not much flavor. The seafood pasta was pretty good (lots of seafood).

Bath area

Red's (in Wiscasset) - Didn't have a long line (only about 20 mins @ 7:30PM on a Thursday). Got the lobster roll. Not nearly as good as everyone makes it out to be (I'm probably going to get flamed for that comment), but certainly the best I had on my trip. The butter is served on the side and the lobster was cool/cold. I think that the lobster roll at Lenny and Joe's (in Madison, CT) is better - warm lobster bathed in butter. Although I do have to say that Red's does give you your money's worth in the amount of lobster.

The Strawberry ice cream at Red's (on the side of the building) was great, the Blueberry was not so great.

Kristine's - excellent blueberry pie.

Beale St BBQ - pretty darn good BBQ. And they pile the food on. The chicken quesadilla was really good.

5 Islands

Five Islands Lobster Co. - great lobster and atmosphere. Couldn't really see much (WAY too much fog) but all of my attention was given to the delicious lobster. I love Maine!

Portland

Flatbread Company - Coming from NYC I wasn't expecting much. It's not NYC-style pizza but it was pretty darn good. Soft crust, interesting toppings (goat cheese). I'd definitely go back.
