A prior post (linked below) about LV's in Oakland had me curious and what with the BBQ Tasting coming up (March 17) I thought it was high time to check out this BBQ spot in Oakland.
While the sign says LVS BBQ (at least on the side of the building as you're headed to Emeryville from Berkeley) the menu actually reads "ELVES" Taste & See (altho he was out of takeout menus, so I can't report on the full menu and maybe it said ELVS?).
I got smothered pork chops with rice and gravy, greens and yams and I'm a happy camper. The greens were really good - just a touch of hot spice and the yams were big soft slices with pineapple slices as well. The porkchop was great, as was the gravy but I could have lived w/out the mushy rice.
While I was waiting, another customer asked if I'd been there before and told me she drives from Pinole (and sometimes Sacramento) to eat there (or get takeout).
She said it was all good - but esp likes the ribs, the fried chicken, any of the smothered dishes. They also had fried fish and fish sandwiches on the menu, BBQ chicken, beef links.
There are a few tables and some video games and it's not far from a school (and also had burgers, hotdogs on the menu), so it's probably busy busy at lunchtime.
It was only me eating today so didn't get more dishes and I'm not big on ribs, so didn't try those, but will definately head back there again to sample more.
