Lunch at Mua

escargot3 | Nov 3, 201104:22 PM

I was very excited to see the big sign out front announcing that Mua was now serving lunch. So I pulled over and gave it a try. Disclaimer: I really love Mua for dinner or just for drinks.

The menu had many familiar items from the dinner menu: the amazing burger, of course, and also steamed mussels, etc. I was tempted to get the CBQ (chick peas, bulgar, and quinoa) burger. But in the end chose the "smoked chicken sandwich" with sundried tomatoes and watercress aioli. Served on levain bread, it seemed promising on arrival. But I was hugely disappointed that it actually was a chicken salad sandwich. Bummer. I definitely wasn't in the mood for that, tasty as it was, with a lovely smoked flavor that was very present.

I also was disappointed with the fries this time. Usually they are among my faves. But this serving must have been sitting for a little while as it had lost its crispy texture entirely, and actually was kinda bland and flavorless.

And finally, my iced tea also had nice flavor -- but it was really weak. Prepared by a coffee drinker, perhaps?

All in all, while I was disappointed, I won't dismiss coming back again soon. They've only been open a few days, so perhaps they need time to settle in. The space is really lovely in the daylight. And parking is AMPLE!!!! with streets full of empty metered spots ($2/hour in Oaktown -- just remember to bring your own quarters.)
