Lunch explorations: KJs kitchen and Mediterranean Market

Both of these establishments are in the same strip mall on Spring Mountain just south of Jones (about three blocks from my new office!)

KJs Kitchen was where I ate lunch today. I must admit I find the menu a little confusing...there are a lot of lunch specials but apparently only some include soup etc...others are the same dishes on the regular menu just lower prices. (So that would be nice to share). I ordered the green beans in XO sauce: I must say I thought they were delicious. Just the right crunch and the right amount of some type of pork fat to make them tasty. Service was a little slow but in all fairness the place was packed. Prices are reasonable; I will definitely go back. They have seafood tanks, so some of the fresh seafood might be worth trying.

But I feel like the "find" of the day was the Mediterranean Market in the same small strip mall. They have a well-stocked halal butcher, as well as a lot of good-looking vegetables and fruits at reasonable prices. Some are varieties that aren't easy to find, such as okra and baby eggplant. They also have a great selection of fresh herbs at great prices (and a great variety for winter!) as well as nuts and middle-Eastern sweets sold in bulk (again, all prices seemed pretty reasonable to me).

The emphasis is on Middle Eastern and North African specialty foods, of course, including a wonderful variety of hummus, tahini, etc`. But they also have some Indian food items, notably a great spice selection, as well as Indian pickles, gram flour, dals, etc. I even spotted some Patra. I like this place; I'll be back when I have chance to peruse the selections without having to head back to work.....

Edit: Forgot to mention: This is in Las Vegas, of course.....
