Does anyone love their slow cooker?

josephnl | Feb 6, 201504:46 PM     74

I had a slow cooker years ago when I was still working. Although I enjoyed the convenience of setting up a meal before I left for work in the morning and then having dinner ready when I returned home at night, I was never thrilled with the food. Everything seemed to turn out sort of overcooked and mushy, and not especially tasty.

I haven't used a slow cooker in perhaps 20 years, and I'm sure that they've improved since. On the other hand, it's no big deal for me to be around while I'm braising or slow cooking something in my LeC Dutch oven either stovetop or in the oven. So...my question is...is a slow cooker something that I should have? I love making soups, braises, stews, beans, and many things that require slow low cooking.

If you think I should have one, what brand and size would you recommend? I usually only cook for two, but am not afraid to freeze leftovers for a second meal.
