As a local, I have tried many of the favorites- l'Epi Dupin, Ze Kitchen Galerie, Fontaine de Mars, La Regelade, l'Atelier de Joel Robuchon (which I personally found to be over-priced and over-rated),La Tour d'Argent, etc. I am looking for something along the lines of Ze Kitchen Galerie or Spoon, Food & Wine- not a starred resto but a special one- for a date with my husband.
I am intrigued by mentions, but would like to hear more about, places like Angl' Opera in the 1st, Cafe Constant in the 7th, Le Pre Verre, L'Angle du Faubourg, les Bookinistes... I am unsure if these are the atmosphere I am seeking.
Atmosphere, value and quality are equally important, and preferred location is 6th, 7th, 8th or 1st. Don't want to necessarily trek to the Marais. Any suggestions, or confirmations for any of the above?
By the way, I have found a few values of my own that I have never seen mentionned, like...
Chez Paul in the Bastille area
La Gaulouise in the 15th on la Motte Picquet
Bistro du 7eme on Ave de la Tour Maubourg
L'Os a Moelle and especially Cave de l'Os a Moelle (both in the 15th)
For Italian, I love the cozy & casual atmosphere at Pizza Positano in the 6th (Mabillon metro) but I must say that I often leave enraged by the service. After readng a recommendation on Chow Hound, my husband and I recently tried l'Ami Jean and absolutely loved it! I would say it is the best bistro food I have ever had! I also think Fromagerie 31 in the 6th on Saturdays is an incredibly fun place for tourists to taste wine and cheese! Also, Lo Sushi in the 8th has very fresh sashimi and is a fun atmosphere. Still along the lines of value, one of my favorite memories in Paris was lunch at le Crillon. I wouldn't pay the higher prices for a dinner there, but I would most highly recommend their lunch menu for a very special lunch with good friends or family.
I'm looking forward to hearing about your favorites!
