Literati 2 - Review

Dan | Apr 8, 200501:24 AM

As we work near Literati 2 (12000 block of Wilshire, West La), we anxiously awaited this new restaurant to open. Outdoor patio, white table cloths, and prices to match - this isn't like the old Literati.

Service was very friendly and professional. Bread arrived quickly - a nice mix of peasant bread, some type of cheese crisp, and other items along with a smokey/pepper type spread. Menu is very small - only about 15 items for lunch, ranging in price from $10 for a peanut butter/onion (don't ask) sandwich to well over $20 for a steak dish.

The caesar salad tries too hard. It's tasty but has figs, not enough dressing, and a lack of zing. It's okay but not great, especially at $10. A Dungeness crab sandwich is served open face on a brioche type roll. Tasty but overpriced at $16. Not overly big. Crab was delicious and is served with a cole slaw and very tasty potato and vegetable chips/crisps. Another person ordered the cobb salad which was decent looking but nothing to rave about. Not very large.

The restaurant has a wine list that is currently printed on lined notebook paper as the real ones haven't arrived. This restaurant just opened for lunch but in our estimation, it may be better for dinner. For lunch, I'll take Foodies or Nook - better food at a fraction of the prices.

Literati 2 is good, don't get me wrong. But at these prices, for lunch, on the corner of Bundy and Wilshire - we expected more. The restaurant is very nice and certainly has potential. Bigger portions, lower prices, and maybe some more selections would do well. It seems to be trying too hard to impress. Right down the street is Casa Antigua, home to one of West LA's best caesar salads. It's large, tangy, crisp, and not overpriced. Literati 2 could take a hint...
