Limoncello -- Making it

I just started a big batch last night, using meyer lemon and citron zest -- so far, so good. Since I have all these lemons leftover, I'm wondering if I can use meyer lemon juice and sugar for the syrup instead of simple syrup. Has anyone done this? Will the result be more deliciously lemony, or not work for some reason?
