My family and I went to dinner last Saturday at "Le Select Bistro". (Queen Street West) For the first time that we can remember,the food and service were quite off. We have been going to Le Select for at least 12 years. I had a steak,bavette type. It was ordered med rare,and very overcooked. The frites were not good-chewy. I had ordered a risotto,as a starter. (Mushrooms,various types) Since I had had this before many times,I had looked forward to both the risotto and the bavette steak. Sadly,both were so changed,I couldn't enjoy them at all. I tried an onion soup-it was still very good. In the past,I had been served perfectly cooked bavette steak, also had a wonderful roast duck. A friend had ordered the roast duck; he found it chewy,overcooked,crispy skin though,and a very nice sauce. I hear they are moving. I hope that when they move,the food will be up to their previous standard. The risotto was ok,not too much flavor,and the sweet red pepper sauce overpowered things.
