My wife and I had dinner at La Fontana in Huntington Beach last weekend. The restaurant, in a nondescript strip mall on Beach Blvd., is between the Ruby Palace, a Chinese restaurant, and a check cashing store. Once inside, the room is attractive with lovely murals, Italian movie posters, and subdued lighting. The service is friendly and relaxed. The wine list is limited but with a reasonably good and fairly priced selection of Italian and California wines. Corkage is $15. My wife had an artichoke appetizer and a delicious pan-seared salmon entree in a creamy pesto sauce with risotto cake. I had a roasted eggplant and smoked salmon with goat cheese appetizer and angel hair pasta entree with shrimps, crab meat and lobster. The dessert menu was varied and interesting. Food presentations were very attractive.Prices were reasonable. Overall,we found La Fontana a surprisingly sophisticated and affordable restaurant in an unlikely location. The restaurant does wine tastings and regional Italian dinners with food and wine pairings each month.
