Me and the Mrs. (who occasionally posts under the name Gus) went to Kali's Court for a semi special occasion dinner on Saturday night.
We had 8:00 reservations, when we arrived they pointed us to the bar while we waited for our table. I like having a drink before dinner so I wasn't put off at all, except that we were there for an hour. Actually we would have been there longer but my wife had to inquire with the hostess rather insistently before we were seated. This is made worse by the fact that many people who arrived after us were seated first. They seemed to play favorites.
When we were finally seated the food was mixed. I had the grilled scallop appetizer which was outstanding, my wife had the braised prawns which I liked better than she did.
My dinner was practically a fraud. I had Bouillabaisse, which promised shrimp, there was one medium sized suspect, lobster, a piece the size of a nickel, a few very nice mussels and a bowl full of un named fish.
The broth was flavorful but not special. Afterward I spent the rest of the evening and a bit of Sunday getting ill. Lets just say I highly suspect my dinner.
My wife's tuna was lovely though.
To add insult to injury, the bill arrives and the glasses of house merlot at the bar were $11 a piece.
To sum it up. The prices were high ($175 with tip), our reservations were unimportant and the food made me sick. I don't think this place belongs in the same sentence with Soigné or any of the other fine new restaurants in Baltimore.
