Stopped at the groceria this evening to grab something for dinner -- had pork chops on the grill in mind (and a cache of garden greens in the fridge). Was assaulted in the produce section by a shopping cart full of just picked first-of-the-season local sweet corn. Sweet Jesus, sweet corn...Hallelujah!
So dinner turned out like this:
Pork chops given a quick soak in grapeseed oil and lemon juice with gobs of crushed garlic and S&P, grilled to medium rare
Baby darlin sweet corn boiled for just 4 minutes, with a touch of sweet butter and a sprinkling of fleur de sel
Baby spinach and mache, harvested this afternoon in the back yard...dressed with a double dose of slivered raw garlic, grapeseed oil, ground pepper, fleur de sel and a sprinkling of balsamic vinegar
St. Francis Chardonnay
Lordy, lord, this was the taste of summer incarnate on an evening when the sun finally broke through towering cumulus clouds after a day of thunder and lighting and rain.
