Last night I had an excellent birthday dinner with my wife at Joule.

We started with the beef tartare. Pine nuts added great texture and the asian pear nice sweetness.

Second we had the rice cake with chorizo and mustard greens. The rice cake was made of sliced, crispy mochi, looked almost like turnip or parsnip. It was confusing visually at first. It was a lovely mix of textures and flavors and heat, .

Third we had the Chinese broccoli with walnut pesto. The broccoli was lightly charred and tossed with walnut pesto and roasted or poach garlic cloves. There was a pronounced vinegar note to the pesto that did a lovely job lightening a heavy dish. It was delightful

Out last course was the makerel with green curry cilantro and currants. Amazing crispy skin and fatty fish in a great foil with sweet currents and green curry. IT was an amazing contrast of flavors.

For drinks my wife had the sweet corn tea which we both liked.

I had the jalisco campfire, amazing smokey and flavorful.

We both had the rhubarb shrub , bright, and refreshing.
