...is now open! They've imported everything from the Elmwood Park location, including the long line out the door. It's been a couple of years since I'd been to the old joint, but it measured up to my recollections. Split a beef and a combo--both juicy with hot. Both were excellent, but I couldn't help noting the similarity to my current favorite beef stand, Carm's in Westchester. The giardinera at Johnnie's contains carrots, which Carm's does not, but otherwise they could be the same. I wonder if these top-notch beef places share a common pedigree or lineage, like the standout Chicago pizza places and the Bill Walsh West Coast offense coaching tree.
