I met family at Joe Allen yesterday evening before the theater and had a perfectly lovely, light meal. In the appetizer section of the menu I spotted "Spicy lump crab" and some other ingredients. It was presented in a martini type glass, piled high with lump crab, shirmp, and bits of avocado. The dressing was mostly lime juice and probably jalepenos. It was nicely spicy, bright, and fresh tasting; a sort of ceviche affair. It came with endive leaves or "chips" to scoop up the crab mixture.
Others at the table had the steak and fries, and the beef tartare. The steak was really good, cooked just as ordered. Their salads are huge, by my standards. Good bread, too. Nothing "haute" about it, but we usually all manage to eat quite well there, and get to the theater on time.
