Jarred mincemeat question

I picked up a jar of NoneSuch mincemeat, planning on using to make a pie for my father, since he loves it, though none of the rest of the family does. (in my defense, I do usually make all other pies from scratch) It seems a bit loose in the jar, does it thicken up after cooking or should I add a touch of cornstarch to it? And I'm wondering if I should add anything to it, perhaps a diced apple?
