Help with a Japanese Restaurant Recommendation

kmcg302 | Apr 24, 201501:55 PM

I'd like some recommendations for a japanese restaurant based on the criteria below (I've perused the board and have read all of the more recent sushi/japanese restaurant threads but wasn't able to find what I was looking for):

-- Would prefer a nicer/relatively upscale restaurant that takes reservations as it's for my grandma's 82nd birthday
-- Good for a group of 6 adults + a toddler
-- I'm pregnant and my grandma, although she loves japanese food, does not eat raw fish (Yes, the irony is not lost on me). So, we are looking for a place that serves more than just sushi(for example, tempura, robata grilled meats/seafood), but also does sushi incredibly well.
-- Since grandma can be picky, a place that doesn't necessarily require us to do omakase/kaseiki for the whole table and would allow us to order a la carte.

Does such a place exist?

Our party includes visitors from Singapore who are used to excellent sushi. I am not familiar with SF's japanese food scene at all (we live an hour away), so any recommendations would be much appreciated. A friend recommended Ozumo, but I've heard it's pretty mediocre.

Open to anywhere in the City that has decent parking or valet (HA).

Thank you!
