Jamaican black cake and calaloo patties

Persynna | Aug 12, 2002 02:25 PM

I was out in Flatbush this morning, and had a vision of the perfect lunch: a toasty, crisp-crusted, tart green calaloo patty, followed by a small piece of rich, rummy, fruity black cake.

I ended up with a gummy, overly sweet vegetable patty filled mostly with canned corn, and a piece of dry, bodyless black cake. Oh the sorrow.

Does anyone have good sources for either of the aforementioned dream items, in any of the boroughs? I used to get calaloo patties *sometimes* at a Golden Crust on Flatbush Ave near Church which were pretty good, but no luck today.
