Been at the Burlington H-Mart last few hours. Hated rushing. Got some goodies. Gonna have a little Korean tonight and tomorrow. I've had some great authentic peeks at Korean food in Flushing, NY this year but today was my first "from scratch" Kimchi Mama endorsed grocery shopping. (I combined the suggested lists of ten Korean American households)
To fortify myself I stopped at Young Chow Loo in the food court and lunched on JaJangmyun (자장면; 짜장면); wheat noodles topped with a thick sauce made of chunjang (a salty black soybean paste), diced meat and vegetables. Might've been cloyingly sweet but I didn't care. The whole perfect buckwheat noodle (not too gummy) and pickled bits and cubes of meat were a sweet and savory textural pleasure. A happy memory. Beverage was cold water. Soda would pushed me over to a diabetic coma. Service was excellent, speedy and polite. I'll be back for the oyster jam pong noodle, wool myun and many enticing dumplings. 감사합니다
H-Mart itself and all its many samples make a whole day of shopping. With Young Chow Loo, Korean, Indian and Viet offerings in the food court, I'm thinking property values are going up in Burlington. If the next H-Mart was in my town, I wouldn't say no.
