Saturday's L.A. Times ran an article about Irv's Burgers and its successful yearlong campaign to save the threatened historic stand (NE corner of Santa Monica/Sweetzer in West Hollywood). The 58-year-old sandwich counter was designated a cultural resource to the delight of thousands of hamburger fans who rallied to save it from being bulldozed. The article addressed its history and described the oh-so-friendly current owner, who greets customers with personalized songs and serves food on paper plates decorated with their names and individualized sketches. However, nothing was mentioned about the food (which should be good if so many people worked to save the stand) so I am asking you Chowhounds to give me your opinions about Irv's because I have never been there.
