I work in Newark and whenever we go out to eat in town we end up going to generic Ironbound Iberian restaurants that seem to be stuck in the 1950's. Obnoxious waiter pushing the lobster, meals consisting of a big lump of protein (meat/fish) next to overboiled vegetables next to flavorless yellow rice or potatoes. (Okay the paella features these things mixed together, but it's no better.) There's even a guy in a maroon blazer walking around with a camera that has a bellows on it! This is what my grandparents were looking for in a restaurant. Zagat's NJ has been useless.
I haven't seen any posts dating from more recently than 2001. Anything dependable? Anything interesting? House of cheese bread sounds promising but not quite dinner.
Don't care if it's Brazilian, Spanish, or Portuguese, just want it to be from 2005 and taste good.
I've got a visitor coming to work in one week. Suggestions?
