I tried a new place in the Ironbound this afternoon- a tapas bar called Vivo on Ferry. Without a doubt the best meal that I have ever had in the Ironbound and one of the best meals I have had recently!
A simple salad of shrimp, smoked salmon and anchovies over fresh greens was probably all I needed to eat,- and was only $8- but we split three tapas plates- squid in ink, octopus that had the most amazingly smooth texture and a few sprinkles of coarse sea salt and a tortilla with potato- a bit bland given the other choices. The only real entree that we ordered was a steak au poivre with french fries- it got raves. We passed on the offer of port on the house and they gave us lovely espresso instead.
Portions large but not Ironbound huge. I will take this quality any day over Don Pepe grotesque! Service was wonderful. I am not sure if they are connected, but on Ferry is a less "fancy" restaurant that could be connected ( the entrance that we went into was on the side street). They don't have a parking lot ( unfortunately when we went, it was street cleaning time so parking was scarce). The waitress said that a $4 lot was across the street. Hope that the Prudential crowd finds this place and keeps it open- but the lack of an onsite parking lot could be a problem.
