Iranian (Kasra) dates @ Samiramis Imports

chowhoundX | Jan 13, 201702:08 PM

At the recent Royal Feast Chowdown, I mentioned I was looking for a source of Iranian dates. Thank you Candice and Prabhakar for suggesting Samiramis Imports (2990 Mission, SF), where they just started carrying Persian Kasra dates a few months ago.

In case anyone is interested, I used these dates to make date, almond, and tahini energy balls from Yasmin Khan's "The Saffron Tales" cookbook. (https://www.cooked.com/uk/Yasmin-Khan...) The Iranian dates are mushier, resulting in a softer ball than the more textured ones I produced with medjool dates. I prefer the medjool version, even though forming a ball after grinding everything in a Cuisinart requires more elbow grease.
