Does Iodized salt have to be labelled as such?

BeckyAndTheBeanstock | Dec 22, 2009 11:51 AM

How do I know if I'm dealing with iodized salt or not? If iodine is added, is the salt reaquired to be labeled as such? Sometimes I see a salt label that says "does not contain iodine". Sometimes I see a label that says "iodized salt". Sometimes I see one that lists the ingredients as salt and iodine. Other times I see one that says the ingredients are "sea salt" but it does NOT say it does or does not contain iodine. I am pretty sure that pickling salt is iodine free, but my pickling salt doesn't say this, it just says "salt". Is sea salt naturally iodine free? I'm getting into cheese-making and so knowing the difference will change my outcomes.
