1. The bartender declared that the sweetbreads beat Craft's. I did not agree.They were deep-fried in almond meal and it was all just too much about the (heavy) oil and (thick) crust.
2. Baccalao fritters with orange aioli. The aioli tasted like something a Junior League cookbook would offer as the winning result of mixing mayonnaise and marmalade in a bowl that had been rubbed with garlic. The fritters looked like fish sticks, and didn't taste sufficiently different to dispel the impression altogether.
3. Bread: flabby.
4. pulpo: fine, but the salad was exceedingly salty.
5. skirt steak: he liked and I tasted only the onions--which struck me as too salty and too sweet.
140 for 2 w/food as above & 4 gl. wine, before tip. It was fun & good but I know there is better in NYC & also in the neighborhood.
I expect to be back but will bring more modest expectations.
