The new Il Palio, Chapel Hill, NC

LulusMom | Oct 4, 201507:14 AM

Once Adam Rose left Il Palio (in the Sienna Hotel), we found that there just wasn't much that we were interested in having. The menu got smaller and less appealing (at least to us). At those prices this makes an even bigger difference than it normally would. I happened to think about going there again just to see if things were better a couple of weeks back, and saw from their website that they were closed for renovations. Yesterday I checked again, and they have reopened (I think in the past week) with a much more interesting menu. So ... we took a chance and went. Not as wonderful as when Adam Rose was there but we had a very nice meal. They have 9 crostini that you can get at $3 each, so you can mix and match with whatever appeals to you. I tried the chicken liver (which was out of this world) and the bacalao. LulusDad skipped crostini and got tuna crudo. He said it was very good, if not all that exciting. I had a half order of the pasta with truffle-porcini butter. Good, not great. Husband had steak which was supposed to be 10 oz but was so big he couldn't eat it all (it wasn't the Florentine). We had two sides - a very creamy polenta, and a wonderful roasted cauliflower with capers and yogurt. No room for dessert. Not inexpensive, but once again a nice date night spot for us. Glad to have it back. Here's a link to the menu: http://www.ilpalio.com/menu/
