Il Convivio London Review--Thanks Paula!!!

Went to Il Convivio (143 Ebury) Saturday night after a delightful afternoon of theater (Art). Wow! From get go, the service was attentive (I could see how some might find it a tad fussy, but I thought it was just highly "aware") and very professional (a few of the many folks fluttering around I'd even rank as "friendly!!!"). But to the food.

My boyfriend opted for the 3-course dinner, I for the 2. The amuse boche was a nice timbale of roasted vegetables with goat-cheese. He started with a wonderful parmesan soup with goat-cheese raviolis; very light but with an INTENSE flavor. I opted for the risotto with radiccio, which was wonderful. He then had the macaroni with a fresh, spicy plum tomato sauce, buffalo mozzarella and basil, which to me at first sounded quite plain. However, the sauce was most amazing and robust, the pasta perfect. I'd happily eat a full serving of that next time! We both couldn't resist the fillet of veal with wild mushrooms, vegetable tartlet and a thyme sauce. Good thing--we didn't have to fight over our food! The veal was tender and the vegs were flavorful. Presentation of all dishes, BTW (we saw a lot of food going by--the place was packed), was lovely and plentiful.

For pudding, I had the house speciality white espresso ice cream (thanks Paula!!) and he the chocolate trilogy--which consisted of a lip smacking (and plate-scraping) chocolate creme brule, a scoop of white chocolate ice-cream in a creme puff, and a unique torte with layers of chocolate, cherry and aubergine! Oh, before our puds showed up, we received a "pre-pud" consisting of pineapple sorbet in coconut sauce. Yum!
Alas, we had no room for the 3 petit-fours each that arrived after our puds. I did manage to try one chocolate truffle, which was sublime.

Prices: 26.50 2 courses £31.50 3 courses

All in all, a wonderful dinner. The restaurant is very nicely designed (I loved the toilets!) and we were quite impressed with the diversity of its clientele. Highly recommended and thanks again Paula for responding to my query about Il Convivio!
